SDMS Educational Foundation
Excellence in Sonography Award
Purpose
This award represents the commitment of both GE Healthcare and the SDMS Educational Foundation to support the promotion of excellence in sonography through an individual or team approach or through an action which increases the understanding of sonography. This award will identify and honor outstanding sonographic achievements which advance the goals of promoting the art and science of diagnostic ultrasound to the sonography and medical communities.
Award Winners
The recipient will receive $1,000 and a personalized plaque at the SDMS Annual Conference, where the award will be presented.
Eligibility
All SDMS members in good standing, including student members, are eligible to apply for consideration of this award.
Submission Criteria
Submissions must include the following elements:
- Significance/Quality of Achievement
- Does the achievement address or solve an existing sonographic issue?
- Will this achievement advance knowledge in the field of diagnostic medical sonography?
- Will this achievement have an effect on current concepts?
- Innovation
- Was the achievement due to the employment of novel concepts or approaches?
- Was the applicant's approach original?
- Were the existing paradigms challenged and new techniques developed?
- Impact on Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Does the manuscript clearly illustrate demonstrable or quantifiable changes as a result of the achievement?
- Impact on Enhancing Patient Care
- Has health care been changed as a result of the achievement?

Transfer of Copyright
Since the manuscript will be considered for publication in the JDMS, a completed Copyright Transfer Agreement must accompany the submission. All authors of an article must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement. A printable Copyright Transfer Agreement is available on the SDMS website at http://www.sdms.org/jdms/transfer.pdf and must be completed and sent with the manuscript submission.
Judging
A panel of sonographers will evaluate all submissions and select the award winning entry(ies) prior to the SDMS Annual Conference.
Submission Requirements and Deadline
All submissions must:
- include an Entry Form (available on the SDMS website at http://www.sdms.org/foundation/entryform.asp),
- include the research manuscript - 1 hard copy of the manuscript (double-spaced, size 12 font), 1 copy of the manuscript on computer disk in Microsoft WORD
- must be received by the SDMS Educational Foundation office by June 30.
