Hand-Carried Ultrasound (HCU) Research Award
SonoSite and the SDMS Educational Foundation are pleased to present the Hand-Carried Ultrasound (HCU) Research Award, created to support original research into the positive economic, clinical or ergonomic benefits of using HCU as well as innovative clinical applications of HCU technology.
Purpose
To support and advance research in the use of hand-carried ultrasound technology.
For the purposes of this award HCU is defined as ultrasound systems that:
- weigh less than 10 pounds
- have the capability to run on battery
- have at least 2D imaging capability
Award Winners
The recipient will receive $1,500 and a personalized plaque at the SDMS Annual Conference, where the award will be presented.
Eligibility
All SDMS members in good standing, including student members, are eligible to apply for consideration of this award.
Submission Criteria
- Submissions must support research regarding the benefit of using HCU systems. These benefits include, but are not limited to:
- Novel methods of incorporating HCU into clinical practice,
- Innovative clinical applications for HCU technology,
- Innovative technical applications for HCU technology,
- Positive economic benefits of the use of HCU technology,
- Positive ergonomic benefits of the use of HCU technology.
- Submissions may include:
- Original research articles,
- Notable case studies.

The following statement, with your signature, will be included at the end of your manuscript. Failure to include this statement will result in the disqualification of your award entry.

Transfer of Copyright
Since the manuscript will be considered for publication in the JDMS, a completed Copyright Transfer Agreement must accompany the submission. All authors of an article must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement. A printable Copyright Transfer Agreement is available on the SDMS website at http://www.sdms.org/jdms/transfer.pdf and must be completed and sent with the manuscript submission.
Judging
A panel of sonographers will evaluate all submissions and select the award winning entry(ies) prior to the SDMS Annual Conference.
Submission Requirements and Deadline
All submissions must:
- include an Entry Form (available on the SDMS website at http://www.sdms.org/foundation/entryform.asp),
- include the research manuscript - 1 hard copy of the manuscript (double-spaced, size 12 font), 1 copy of the manuscript on computer disk in Microsoft WORD
- must be received by the SDMS Educational Foundation office by June 30.
