  4. ARDMS Converts to CME Audit System

The new policy and information can be found on the ARDMS website at: http://www.ardms.org/registrants/cmeaudit.htm.

Effective January 10, 2006, the ARDMS will no longer accept electronically submitted or individual certificates from CME activities. Beginning March 1, 2007, the ARDMS will be sending 'audit' letters to randomly selected registrants asking the registrant to provide evidence of their completion of the required CME credits. The SDMS CME Tracker transcript will be accepted by the ARDMS as proof of completion of the required CME. If you also completed CME credits from another source, such evidence will also need to be submitted to the ARDMS (note that you must send all documentation as one 'packet' - incomplete audits will be returned or could result in loss of your credential(s).

Discuss this new policy on our discussion forums (under career/job issues) at: http://www.sdms.org/members/forums/default.asp

  6. Hurricane Katrina Recovery Update

Delgado Community College students, who helped out at the 2004 SDMS Annual Conference in New Orleans, need new books.

It's now been a little over five months since Hurricane Katrina left her trail of destruction along the Gulf coast of the United States. Business is slowly returning to some of the harder hit areas, but progress is slow and very expensive. The people of Delgado Community College, in downtown New Orleans (near the Superdome) considers themselves fortunate that they've been able to pick up the pieces and start to return to normal. Classes just resumed on January 17 at that downtown campus, but they are facing a severe shortage of textbooks and other educational tools. Lisa Schuler, the program's assistant professor and clinical instructor, says that the student library was totally destroyed. There is not one book remaining. Delgado is actively soliciting donations of any excess sonography, anatomy or any medical books that can be used. If you would like to join us in helping, you may send donations to:

Michael Toups or Lisa Schuler
Delgado Community College
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
450 S Claiborne Ave
New Orleans, LA 70112

For more information about their needs, please contact Lisa Schuler at 504-881-7477 or lschul@dcc.edu
