  1. SDMS Board Action Items

The SDMS Board of Directors has approved a revised Code of Ethics which is available at:

  2. SDMS Educational Foundation Scholarships Awarded

The SDMS Educational Foundation awards scholarships to students attending CAAHEP-accredited programs three times each year: March 30, July 31 and November 30. These scholarships are funded through your donations to the Foundation and from the sale of the Foundation's products. The following is a list of scholarship recipients for the November 2006 deadline:

  3. Reminder: Call for Nominations for SDMS 2007 Elections and Awards

SDMS members may use our online nomination form to submit their nominations for various association elected positions and awards including:

Board of Directors

  • 3 open positions for "At-Large" Directors
Committee Positions
  • 2 open positions on the SDMS Finance Committee

  4. ARDMS to Convert to Scaled Scoring

Beginning February 1, 2007, all ARDMS examinations will have a passing score of 555 based on a scale of 300-700, no matter what the specialty or test form.

Scaled scoring is already the industry standard among major allied health and credentialing organizations. Other examinations such as the SAT use scaled scoring. The reporting of scaled scores will make ARDMS scores consistent and easier to understand.

  5. ARDMS Revises Prerequisite 2 and Prerequisite 3B

This change allows individuals to apply without a clinical verification form and requires program directors to submit a mandatory letter.

ARDMS has revised prerequisites 2 and 3B. The updated prerequisites will take effect on January 1, 2007 and will allow individuals applying under those prerequisites to submit an application without a clinical verification form as long as it is within the stated parameters.

  6. Fetal Medicine Foundation Newsletter

The Fetal Medicine Foundation USA is a non-profit organization that offers education, training, credentialing, and ongoing quality assurance for first trimester nuchal translucency measurements, and assessments of the nasal bone and tricuspid flow. The organization issues a quarterly, complimentary newsletter offering articles by leading experts as well as other features, such as scanning tips, billing information, upcoming courses, and more.   7. Retraction/Correction

In the November/December 2006 issue of News Wave, the SDMS mistakenly reported that the ‘Tom Cruise’ ultrasound equipment bill, recently passed by the California legislature (AB2360) had been signed into law by the California Governor. Governor Schwarzenegger actually vetoed this bill. The SDMS apologizes for the inclusion of this incorrect information in the Society’s newsletter, and for any inconvenience this may have caused.
