1. OSHA Renews Alliance with the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) renewed its 2004 alliance with the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) to continue working to protect sonographers' health and safety, particularly by reducing or preventing work-related musculoskeletal injuries.

"We expect that the next two years of this alliance will be as successful as the first two," said Edwin G. Foulke Jr., Assistant Secretary for OSHA. "Sonographers and other healthcare employees are benefiting from this relationship and we look forward to our continued association with an organization that is so committed to ensuring that workplace safety is a priority."

	3. SDMS Staff Member Earns Certified Association Executive Credential The SDMS and the American Society of Association Executives are proud to announce that Dawn Sanchez, Executive Director of the SDMS Educational Foundation and Director of SDMS Membership Marketing & Services, has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE™) credential. The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than five percent of all association professionals have earned the CAE. To be designated as a Certified Association Executive, an applicant must have a minimum of three years experience in nonprofit organization management, complete a minimum of 75 hours of specialized professional development, pass a stringent examination in association management, and pledge to uphold a code of ethics. To maintain the certification, individuals must undertake ongoing professional development and activities in association and nonprofit management. Approximately 3,300 association professionals currently hold the CAE credential, which was first awarded in 1961.

4. SDMS Launches JDMS REWARDS Program for Journal Authors

Have you considered writing an article for the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS)? Do you have a unique case study that you would like to share with your colleagues? How would you like to “puzzle the pros” with your Diagnostic Challenge? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of the questions above, now is the time to do it! Sharing information with your colleagues supports the continued growth of the profession and the professional development of its practitioners. The SDMS-developed “JDMS Rewards” program works this way:

Only the manuscript’s primary author is eligible to receive JDMS Rewards benefit

	6. Free Webcast: Are You Prepared for the Pandemic Flu? As a result of the OSHA and American Red Cross Alliance, the organizations have teamed up with Occupational Hazards magazine to offer a free-of-charge Webcast on “Are You Prepared for the Pandemic Flu?” It will be presented on February 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. EST. 	7. OSHA Documents on Avian Flu Now Available A series of new OSHA publications on avian influenza were recently posted on OSHA’s Web site. 	8. JCAHO changes name to The Joint Commission The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has officially changed its name to the shortened "The Joint Commission." Along with the name change, The Joint Commission unveiled a new logo and a new look for its Web site. The accreditor also made changes to its Jayco extranet Web site.
