SDMS Membership Categories

Active Member [ACT]

If you are a sonographer, educator, or commercial representative who has taken the extra step to obtain ARDMS or CCI certification, you are eligible for this membership category. In addition to great benefits, you can help guide the future of sonography by voting in SDMS elections and by participating as an SDMS leader. This category is for health care professionals. Student Member [STU]

Students are the future of sonography. Join under this category and receive special student discounts plus all the benefits of membership except the right to vote and hold office. Membership gives you the information and tools to help meet your career goals and allows you to become proactive in SDMS. SDMS encourages and empowers students to become active individuals in the sonography profession. There are many ways a student can participate in SDMS. [more...]

Associate Member [ASC]

If you are a healthcare provider and have not obtained ARDMS or CCI certification and are primarily involved in the practice of sonography, sonography education, clinical management, or commercial activities, you are eligible for this membership category. You are entitled to all the benefits of membership except the right to hold office or be elevated to Fellow status. And, if in the future, you decide to become a registered sonographer, the SDMS provides the professional support to assist you in your career goals. [more...]

Advanced Practice Sonographer® Member [APS®]

The Advanced Practice Sonographer® (APS®) is a new membership category designed to create opportunities for advancement and recognition of the membership within the ultrasound community, to educate the medical community and healthcare consumers, and to assist in the establishment of a career ladder for advancement within the profession of sonography. The APS® is intended to serve as a model for recognition of clinical excellence and appropriate standards of education, training, and certification in a specialty. [more...]

Supporting Member [SUP]

Do you participate professionally in the field of diagnostic ultrasound and support the mission of the Society? If so and you are not a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or an Ultrasound Technician, then you qualify for this membership designation. As a Supporting Member, you receive all the benefits of membership except the right to vote or hold office. [more...]

Corporate/Business/Institution Member [CBI]

This membership category is for businesses who manufacture or sell ultrasound equipment, accessories, or publications; for continuing education providers; for recruiters, and for institutions providing sonography related education and training. Call us for additional information on the excellent benefits of membership and a special Corporate/Business/Institution Membership Application. Members in this category may not vote or hold office. Fellow Member [FEL]

This membership category is an honorary designation that requires nomination from another member and a specified level of professional and organizational service. For information, contact membershipdept@sdms.org
