Kenneth R. Gottesfeld Award

Purpose

The Kenneth R. Gottesfeld Award recognizes sonographer authors for the publication of outstanding research or review articles in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS). Its purpose is to encourage sonographers to share their expertise and to advance the reputation of the JDMS through impact to the profession, rigor of study design, and innovation of thought.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Kenneth R. Gottesfeld Award, articles must:

  • Have a sonographer listed as an author (based on credentials);
  • Be Original Research or Literature Review articles that relate to the profession of diagnostic medical sonography;
  • Be published in the previous year’s volume of the JDMS; and
  • Not have been recognized by other SDMS awards (i.e. Sample Awards).

Nominations

  • Nominations are not accepted from the membership-at-large for this award.

Procedure

  • The award is given to the authors of the two highest-ranking eligible articles in the previous year’s volume of the JDMS.
  • The winning articles ar​e evaluated based on impact on the profession, study design and rigor, and innovation of thought by selected members of the JDMS Editorial Board.
  • If an eligible article is authored by a JDMS Editorial Board Member, the article remains eligible for the award; however the author/board member cannot be selected as a​n evaluator.

Recognition

Award winners receive:

  • Monetary awards as follows: First Place: $1000, Second Place: $500. The primary/corresponding author will be responsible for distributing the monetary award to all eligible ​authors.
  • An engraved award for each author;
  • Two complimentary, transferrable tickets per author to the SDMS & SDMS Foundation Awards event held at the SDMS Annual Conference (maximum of eight (8) per article); and
  • Recognition at the SDMS & SDMS Foundation Awards event and in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS), SDMS press release, and SDMS social media release.
