As my time as your President is coming to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to you, my colleagues and members of this wonderful professional society. It is because of you and your service to the profession, that the Society and the SDMS Foundation has been able to accomplish so many of the goals outlined in our strategic plans.
Below are highlights of what we have accomplished over the last two years.
If someone would have asked me 35 years ago when I was cross training into sonography, where do you see yourself in 20 or 30 years, my response would not have been where I am today. I would have never imagined myself becoming an educator, or the President of SDMS, or traveling from my rural area of Dallas, PA to metropolitan Dallas, TX.
My volunteer work with the SDMS began with the development of the National Education Curriculum. Working with the members of that Taskforce, inspired me to continue my volunteerism to the society. I sincerely appreciate the members of the NEC Taskforce, all the board members who has served with me, committee members, volunteers and all of the sonographers I have had the pleasure of meeting at conferences.
I would like to extend a special thank you to Katie Kuntz, the Immediate Past President of the SDMS, who expertly mentored me as I took on the role of President. I will miss her as she concludes her tenure on the SDMS Board of Directors at the 2017 SDMS Annual Conference in October. I will also miss the Directors who are finishing their terms on the SDMS Board. On a brighter note, I am looking forward to working with the new Directors who will be joining the SDMS Board in October.
I would also like to recognize the wonderful SDMS staff, who under the direction of Don Kerns and Mary Rodriguez, are truly dedicated to bringing you the best resources and services for the profession.
Regardless of where we live or work, we are so fortunate to be sonographers. I know that you share my passion for sonography and providing accurate quality care to our communities and I encourage you to consider giving back by volunteering with the SDMS. As my story shows, you never know where it will take you.
While it is bittersweet to pass the gavel to Tammy Stearns, your next SDMS President, I am excited about her many talents and how they will benefit the society and the sonography community as a whole.
