Nuchal Translucency
SDMS Guidelines for Nuchal Translucency Credentialing Organizations
- Recognition of the importance of operator qualifications in first trimester screening by requirement and provision of sonographer credentialing.
- Recommendation that non-physician operators credentialed in nuchal translucency first obtain a sonography credential by prerequisite education/experience and a comprehensive examination, including obstetrical sonography content, administered by an SDMS recognized credentialing organization.
- Incorporation of sonographer member input to policies, procedures, organizational development, and testing and image review activities.
- Standardized, criterion referenced review of images with regular audits for consistency.
- Standardized appeal and remediation process available for sonographer candidates.
- Regional accessibility of educational content and testing.
- Quality monitoring and regular feedback to participating sonographers.
