The SCAN^® 2nd Edition represents a comprehensive evaluation tool for use in the classroom and in the workplace. It is a flexible and comprehensive standardized system to aid in the evaluation of clinical competencies of sonographers, cardiac sonographers and vascular sonographers. The SCAN^® system, developed and tested by clinical sonographers and educators, has been improved to further enhance its ease of use and flexibility. The SCAN^® includes affective and psychomotor proficiencies expected of sonography graduates and/or sonographers in one or more of the following specialty areas:

• Abdomen, Superficial Structures and Breast - 08/06
• Adult Cardiac - 08/06
• Advanced Fetal Cardiac - 07/03
• Neurosonology - 04/04
• Ob/Gyn - 12/05
• Pediatric Cardiac - 07/03
• Vascular - 08/06

Important! To ensure you use the most recent version of each specialty section, it is important to note the "revision date" which is printed in the lower-left corner of the specialty section proficiency pages.

New! The SCAN Online Forms Library - All forms previously provided to users of The SCAN on CD are now located in The SCAN Online Forms Library on the SDMS website. This change has been made to facilitate easy access of forms and instructional information by all SCAN users. Because regular reviews of The SCAN may produce changes to the various forms associated with each specialty section, the most efficient manner to present them is electronically through this website. However, this site is password protected and available only to verified users of The SCAN.
