The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is a professional membership organization founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS is the largest association of sonographers and sonography students in the world.
SDMS Scientific Presentation Competition
The Scientific Presentation Competition, which is a two-part competition, encourages sonographers to further research in the field and their own careers by conducting presentations that may address original clinical or educational research, literature reviews, case studies, best practices, or other areas related to diagnostic medical sonography.

Sonographer and Student Poster Exhibit Competitions
The Sonographer and Student Poster Exhibit Competition encourages sonographers and students to further research in the field and their own careers by creating poster presentations of findings in Original Research, Literature Review, or Case Studies.

W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award
The W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award was established in memory of Dr. Frederick Sample to acknowledge outstanding achievement in the field of diagnostic medical sonography and to encourage students to submit original research and literature review papers for publication in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS).
