I would like to take this opportunity to provide a brief overview of the SDMS and SDMS Foundation’s activities in 2020 and plans for 2021.
Despite the upheaval and uncertainty that persisted throughout 2020, I am pleased to report that the SDMS was able to fulfill its mission of promoting, advancing, and educating its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. In addition to pivoting to fully virtual educational opportunities and providing easy access to trusted resources on COVID-19, the SDMS also took an active role in advocating for sonographers during the pandemic. In 2020, the SDMS served 26,647 members in 50 countries across the world, awarded 442,323 SDMS CME credits, and averaged a 99% satisfaction rating for its virtual events. In 2021, the SDMS will continue to focus on supporting sonographers and providing you with the tools that you need to succeed. For additional details on the SDMS’ activities, please download the newly released 2020 SDMS Annual Report by clicking on the graphic below.
The SDMS Foundation also fulfilled its mission of providing educational and scientific research support to the diagnostic medical sonography community and distributed $40,000 in grants, scholarships, and international assistance in 2020. In 2021, in addition to continuing to fund programs that benefit sonographers, the SDMS Foundation has committed to financially support a research project titled: Documenting the progression of acute to chronic work-related musculoskeletal injuries: A pilot survey of sonographers, vascular technologists, and physicians. The project will be a longitudinal study to document improvements and/or detriments. For additional details on the SDMS Foundation’s activities, please download the newly released 2020 SDMS Foundation Annual Report by clicking on the graphic below.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the numerous SDMS volunteers as well as the SDMS staff for ensuring that sonographers had access to the resources that they needed to maintain their credentials, serve their patients, and be the best sonographers possible.
Thank you for your continued support. It is an honor to serve as your President and I look forward to what we will achieve together in 2021.
