Dear SDMS Members,
As I start my term as the SDMS & SDMS Foundation President, I would like to thank Ted Whitten, BA, RDMS, RVT, FSDMS for his dedication and commitment during his term as President and recognize him for his steady guidance during the ever-changing times brought on by a global pandemic.
I would also like to recognize the new members of the SDMS & SDMS Foundation Board who were installed during the SDMS & SDMS Foundation Awards Presentation at the 2021 SDMS Annual Conference.
I look forward to working with all the SDMS & SDMS Foundation board members to serve you and I am excited to outline my goals for member engagement and volunteerism for the next two years as they relate to the SDMS Strategic Plan that was adopted for 2019 – 2023.
As outlined in the SDMS Strategic Plan, the SDMS is committed to encouraging member engagement and volunteerism since it enables our members to grow as leaders while supporting their chosen profession. Over the past two years, the SDMS has significantly expanded our educational event offerings and we now offer a variety of virtual events as well as the in-person SDMS Annual Conference. The increased need for volunteer event planning and implementation support resulted in the transition of the Conference Management Committee into the Event Management Committee. The objectives of the Event Management Committee are:
Additionally, to enable more volunteers to support the SDMS awards and competitions and to provide additional leadership growth opportunities, the structure of the Membership Awards & Recognition Committee was revamped. The objectives of the Membership Awards & Recognition Committee are:
As I reflect on what I am thankful for during the month of November, the countless contributions of the many SDMS volunteers who enable us to fulfill our mission are top of mind. It is an honor and a privilege to work with the SDMS volunteers and I encourage you to investigate the ways that you can support the sonography community.
Supporting the sonography community can take the form of donating your time and expertise. You can view the current SDMS micro-volunteer opportunities in SDMS Collaborate. Please note that you have to be logged in to sign up for a volunteer opportunity. Also, to be notified when new volunteer opportunities are available, make sure that you are opted in to the “Volunteer Opps” list in the Communications tab in your My Profile on sdms.org.
Monetary donations to the SDMS Foundation also support the sonography community by funding programs that are designed to help sonographers such as yourself. You can make a one-time donation or donate annually when you renew your membership as well as designate the SDMS Foundation as your charity of choice when you do your holiday shopping on Amazon.com. I encourage you to join me in supporting the efforts of the SDMS Foundation to provide grants, scholarships, and international assistance.
I hope that you have a wonderful November and I look forward to serving you over the next two years.
