Sonomoji: Express Yourself

Noun, plural so·no·mo·ji or so·no·mo·jis 

1. (sometimes initial capital letter) Digital technology; a small digital picture combining “sound” and a picture or symbol; used in text messages and other electronic communications that represents a thing, feeling, concept, etc. related to the field of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (a diagnostic imaging modality ​that uses reflected high-frequency sound waves to generate medical images of internal body structures or organs).

Example: She texted me a sonomoji with an ultrasound probe in her hand, which may mean she is doing a sonogram right now.

The SDMS retooled existing emojis and created new ones to fit the needs of sonographers.  The Sonomojis focus both on the humorous aspects and realities of being a sonographer.

Sonomojis Win ASAE 2018 Gold Circle Merit Award

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is pleased to announce that it has won an American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) 2018 Gold Circle Merit Award in the new product/service launch category. The Merit Award recognizes the ingenuity and playfulness of the SDMS’ Sonomoji: Express Yourself campaign for Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) 2017.

To celebrate this victory, we have launched a second round of Sonomojis. As before, the new Sonomojis focus both on the humorous aspects and realities of being a sonographer. As a bonus, several of the popular ones from the first round were also animated for even more fun.
