Kevin D. Evans is a professor emeritus and academy professor, based on his long career and accomplishments at The Ohio State University. Kevin earned a PhD in Geriatrics and Gerontology. Kevin had an extensive clinical and academic career, within the university, having managed clinical units, as well the academic division of radiologic sciences and respiratory therapy. Dr. Evans continues in his role as a funded researcher and the director of the Laboratory for Investigatory Imaging, which was established in 2005 to conduct original research. His graduate students and staff specialize in image analysis, simulation, and cardiovascular research. Kevin has been awarded grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control (R-level), state, private foundations, and commercial contracts, for his ongoing research efforts.

Kevin is the current editor-in-chief of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. He has also served as the chair of both the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and the ARDMS Breast Foundation. He is a past president of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) and the SDMS Educational Foundation. Kevin has over 250 publications, including journal articles, abstracts, multiple textbook chapters, and his own textbook. Kevin has been the recipient of the Distinguished Sonographer Award, presented by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, as well as the Legacy Award, presented by the Society of Ultrasound in Medical Education.

 

Editor Responsibilities

The JDMS Editor manages the editorial content of JDMS to meet quality and content objectives, including compliance with applicable state, federal and international laws. They supervise the overall identity, marketing, and publication process of JDMS and recommend changes to JDMS policies in keeping with industry best practices. In addition, the JDMS Editor oversees the JDMS ​Associate Editors, JDMS Editorial Board, and JDMS Reviewers in soliciting, submitting, reviewing, and rendering decisions on manuscripts for publication. 

Qualifications

The JDMS Editor-In-Chief should:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • Hold a current credential from an SDMS-recognized national sonography credentialing organization;
  • Have a record of scholarship in the sonography field;
  • Have experience in reviewing or authoring articles for publication and in mentoring others through the process;
  • Have a network of colleagues in research and sonography clinical practice;
  • Have reliable internet access and ample technology skills to facilitate use of the JDMS publication system;
  • Have a strong command of the English language, including grammar and syntax;
  • Ideally have experience in sonography education or continuing medical education;
  • Be a member of the SDMS throughout tenure as Editor-In-Chief.
