Dr. Kevin Evans has served as Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography since January 1, 2017.

Dr. Kevin D. Evans received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at The Ohio State University. He has extensive clinical practice experience having managed and worked as a sonographer, vascular technologist, and radiographer for 25 years.

Dr. Evans is a tenured Professor at The Ohio State University’s College of Medicine and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and works as a Researcher/Educator. He is the Chair of the Radiologic Sciences/Respiratory Therapy Division and is the Director of the Laboratory for Investigatory Imaging. Dr. Evans established his own research lab in 2005 and is conducting extramural funded research into the use of image analysis and sonographic contrast agents to enhance the detection of musculoskeletal disorders. In 2010, Dr. Evans received funding from the Centers of Disease Control’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health as a principal investigator and has been funded multiple times by this agency. Currently funded by the Ohio Bureau of Workman’s Compensation, Dr. Evans is leading longitudinal interventional study with students at risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Dr. Evans has served as the Chair of ARDMS, Chair of the ARDMS Breast Foundation, President of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and of the SDMS Educational Foundation. Dr. Evans serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, American Journal of Health Behavior, and Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. Dr. Evans has over 100 publi​shed works that span journal articles, abstracts, multiple textbook chapters, and his own textbook.
 

Editor Responsibilities

The JDMS Editor manages the editorial content of JDMS to meet quality and content objectives, including compliance with applicable state, federal and international laws. They supervise the overall identity, marketing, and publication process of JDMS and recommend changes to JDMS policies in keeping with industry best practices. In addition, the JDMS Editor oversees the JDMS Section Editors, JDMS Editorial Board, and JDMS Reviewers in soliciting, submitting, reviewing, and rendering decisions on manuscripts for publication. 

Qualifications

The JDMS Editor-In-Chief should:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • Hold a current credential from an SDMS-recognized national sonography credentialing organization;
  • Have a record of scholarship in the sonography field;
  • Have experience in reviewing or authoring articles for publication and in mentoring others through the process;
  • Have a network of colleagues in research and sonography clinical practice;
  • Have reliable internet access and ample technology skills to facilitate use of the JDMS publication system;
  • Have a strong command of the English language, including grammar and syntax;
  • Ideally have experience in sonography education or continuing medical education;
  • Be a member of the SDMS throughout tenure as Editor-In-Chief.
