Any student enrolled in a sonography or other healthcare-related educational program may apply to be an SDMS student member, subject to program verification. The cost is $45 per year and includes an online-only subscription to the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Anyone participating in or supporting the practice of diagnostic medical sonography can join the SDMS. Annual membership dues are established by the SDMS Board of Directors.
Review SDMS Membership Categories
You could be sent up to two dues renewal invoices by mail, depending upon when your payment is received by the SDMS. The first invoice is mailed approximately seventy-five days prior to your membership expiration date. You may also receive up to three email reminders of your membership renewal. It is important to note that the SDMS should receive your renewal at least five to seven days prior to your expiration date to ensure that there is no interruption in your membership benefits or change to your tenure with the SDMS.

To join the SDMS as a student member, complete a student membership application and send it, along with the Student Status Verification, to SDMS Headquarters. The Student Status Verification is provided as page two of the student membership application. Student members may also join online and upload a copy of the completed Student Status Verification form during the application process.

While the SDMS organizational membership provides the best value, in the event your employer is restricted from having a membership, bulk discounting may be provided on a case by case basis. Contact the SDMS Membership Department for more information.
SDMS Student members will be automatically moved to the Graduate membership category and assessed a dues rate of $80 USD at their next renewal date immediately following their graduation. The following year, Standard membership dues amounts will be assessed.

Yes, and discounts are available for two-year and three-year Standard memberships. (Because of the special SDMS student membership, graduate membership, and retired membership dues rates, these categories are not discounted if purchased in advance).
The SDMS website currently offers over 300 FREE CME credit opportunities. The majority are from the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) and the SDMS Webinar Series. Other CME activities are added as they are developed. These opportunities are available instantly after joining for all membership categories which include CME credit opportunities.
CCI requires that you complete thirty-six CME (CEU) credits each triennial cycle. At least thirty of these thirty-six credits must be related to cardiovascular technology. See complete information on the CCI website at www.cci-online.org. SDMS suggests that you complete a minimum of twelve CME credits per year to ensure compliance with CCI requirements.
The ARDMS requires that you complete thirty CME credits every three year fixed CME period. See complete information on the ARDMS website at www.ardms.org. The SDMS suggests that you complete a minimum of ten CME credits per year to ensure compliance with ARDMS requirements.
SDMS members currently have access to over 300 CME credits through the JDMS, SDMS Webinar Series and other opportunities online. Credit can only be earned for an activity once.
Important Reminder! All SDMS CME credits awarded to SDMS members will automatically be tracked through the SDMS CME Tracker.
SDMS membership terms are set based on your join date. You may apply at any time and will receive approximately twelve months of membership from the date that your membership is processed.
Membership applications are processed in the order they are received, whether through the mail, online, or via fax. Applications received by mail may take up to an extra week for processing. You will be sent an email confirmation when your membership is active.

JDMS manuscript submissions may only be submitted online through SAGE Track. For complete instructions, please click here.
Each issue of the JDMS will contain several CME credit activities, which if successfully completed, will award you with continuing medical education credit. These articles and post-tests are available on the JDMS website. Completion of the online post-tests is free for members* only and unavailable for non-members. Note: You will be given only one opportunity to pass these tests with a minimum passing score of 70%.
*SDMS CME credit opportunities are not available for SDMS Retired members.
Student status verification may be supplied by your program director, clinical coordinator, or other program faculty member. The Student Status Verification section on page two of the student application must be completed and submitted with the application.
Please allow up to two weeks for processing of applications submitted by mail (and up to one week following the cashing of checks). You may call the Membership Department at 800.229.9506 x111 to check the status of your application. You will receive an email receipt when processing is completed, including instructions on accessing your online SDMS member benefits.
While the SDMS does not specifically offer a group membership option through the website, bulk discounting may be available to organizations that wish to pay for large groups of members at the same time and cannot participate in SDMS organizational membership. During the first year, group members will be pro-rated as necessary to align renewal dates, and the institution will then be able to add/remove members only on an annual basis prior to the group's billing cycle.

Yes. Retired or inactive healthcare professionals would join under the Retired membership category. Note that SDMS Retired members have access to all member benefits except FREE CME credit opportunities.
The SDMS CME Tracker tracks all SDMS-approved CME credits you complete through the JDMS, SDMS Webinar Series, SDMS website, SDMS products, the SDMS Annual Conference, and other SDMS CME providers. Completed credits are transferred to the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) daily, Monday through Friday. You will need to provide the ARDMS with certificates from non-SDMS CME activities you have completed. Completed credits are also transferred to Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) every two weeks. You will need to provide the CCI with certificates from non-SDMS CME activities you have completed.
NOTE: Currently, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) does not participate in the SDMS CME Tracker program.
SDMS Annual Conference registration normally occurs from May to October, and SDMS members receive significant discounts on Annual Conference registration. If you are not an SDMS member, you may be eligible to join and register online at the same time to receive the discount.
