The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is a professional membership organization founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS is the largest association of sonographers and sonography students in the world.
I remember when I was first encouraged to become more involved with the SDMS. I had been a member for several years, attended the annual conferences, and served on the government relations committee, and I was challenged to contribute even more to the society that had provided so much to me. I’ll never forget the final words that were spoken that day, “You will never regret it.”
As a member of the SDMS, you are already an integral part of our professional society. As an organization created by sonographers for sonographers, our society continues to be on the leading-edge and impacts everyone in our profession from students just starting their careers to those who continue to be experts in our field long after their last scan. This is only possible through the many volunteers who share their time and talents to advance our profession. Please consider becoming more involved by nominating a colleague or yourself for one of the open positions on the SDMS Board of Directors or Committees.
Tammy Stearns, MS, RT(R), RDMS, RVT, FSDMS
