SDMS President's Message - November 2019

by Ted Whitten

SDMS Members,

I wanted to share with you the SDMS’ 2019 – 2023 Strategic Plan. In the spring of 2019, the SDMS Board met to conduct strategic planning. The goal of the meeting was to review our progress on our previous strategic plan, examine our research on what our members need to succeed as well as the future of ultrasound in healthcare, and formulate a strategic plan for the next few years.

Below is a high-level overview of the updated SDMS Strategic Plan.

SDMS 2019 – 2023 Strategic Plan

Further build an empathetic, supportive, and responsive environment for the present and future SDMS community.

  • Increase value of membership
  • Encourage member engagement and volunteerism
  • Work to prevent sonography WRMSDs and provide support to those affected

Establish standards to help ensure the protection of the public from unqualified individuals performing sonography.

  • Lead efforts to establish minimum education standards for entry into sonography profession
  • Encourage adoption of state licensure
  • Seek recognition of sonography as a learned profession rather than only an occupation

Provide opportunities for life-long learning that are relevant, accessible, affordable, robust, and high quality.

  • Provide targeted entry-level and advanced-level continuing medical education and professional development
  • Publish a scientific journal that meets the needs of all members

Cultivate relationships in alignment with the SDMS mission, purpose, and strategic plan.

  • Foster complementary liaison partnerships
  • Grow non-dues revenue

I’m excited about what the future holds for the SDMS and look forward to working with you in 2020 and beyond!
Thank you for your continued support of the SDMS.
