Anderson and Hunt Honored as 2022 SDMS Fellows

Sharlette D. Anderson, MHS, RDMS, RVT, RDCS, FSDMS, and Talisha M. Hunt, BSRT, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, are the new 2022 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) Fellows, SDMS President Catherine E. Rienzo, EdD, RT(R)(ARRT), RDMS, FSDMS, has announced. 

Anderson and Hunt both obtained their undergraduate degrees at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.  

Sharlette Anderson, MHS, RDMS, RVT, RDCS, FSDMS
Anderson is a sonography content specialist for Touch of Life Technologies as of mid-2022. Previously, Anderson, who began her sonography career in 1989 and teaching in 2003, was a member of the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) diagnostic medical ultrasound program for 15 years. Her contributions have included developing and providing instruction in sonography, expanding the use of technology in the classroom and for clinical rotations, and motivating/mentoring students in research, publication, and other professional activities, both nationally and locally. She also developed new clinical sites and participated in annual accreditation processes. 

She is a registered diagnostic medical sonographer in abdomen, OB/GYN, and cardiac specialties. She is also a registered vascular technologist.

Anderson was honored as the SDMS Distinguished Educator in 2019 and won first place in the sonographer poster competition in 2016.  

An SDMS member since 2002, Anderson has participated in many SDMS committees, including the CME Review Committee (for continuing medical education activities), Events Management Committee, Membership Awards and Recognition Committee, and Advocacy. She is a popular presenter, demonstrating her skills as an educator in multiple venues, such as the SDMS Annual Conference, SDMS Virtual Conferences, and in SDMS Knowledge Series webinars. Anderson is a member of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) Editorial Board and a JDMS manuscript reviewer. 

Talisha M. Hunt, BSRT, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS
Hunt is lead sonographer and assistant professor of radiology at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota. She began her sonography career (clinical practice and sonography educator) in 2005 when she joined Mayo Clinic. She is a bronze and silver Mayo Clinic Quality Fellow.  

Hunt is a diagnostic medical sonographer registered in pediatric, OB/GYN, abdomen, and adult echocardiography specialties. She is also a registered vascular technologist.

She joined the SDMS in 2004 and is a dedicated contributor: elected three times to the SDMS Board of Directors, a member of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) Editorial Board, and a manuscript reviewer for the JDMS.

Hunt is prolific as a Society volunteer with extensive service on SDMS task forces, committees, and volunteer/micro-volunteer assignments. She is recognized for her involvement on the Infection Control Task Force, the CME Review Committee, the Membership Awards and Recognition Committee, the Executive Committee, and the Emerging Leaders Program, among others. 

Hunt is a popular lecturer for the SDMS Annual Conference and the SDMS Knowledge Series, and has twice won the SDMS Sonographer Poster Competition. She has served as an item writer for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Pediatric Sonography examination and authored or co-authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
