 SDMS Competitions

SDMS members are invited to submit their applications for the SDMS Scientific Presentation Competition, Sonographer and Student Poster Competitions, and the W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award.

Eligibility Guidelines and Submission Instructions on each competition page. All applications and submitted work must be received by May 31, 2023.

SDMS Scientific Presentation Competition ​| Sonographers and sonography students
This competition evaluates sonographers’ original summary papers on clinical research, educational techniques, patient care, sonography department management, case studies presenting a diagnostic challenge, or other areas related to diagnostic medical sonography.

Authors of winning presentations are encouraged to submit their work for publication in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS). Alternatively, they may also create a course proposal for an upcoming SDMS Annual Conference or record an SDMS on-demand webinar. Learn More

Sonographer and Student Poster Competitions | Sonographers and sonography students
Submitted posters should summarize findings in original research, a literature review, or a case study. Entries must be submitted electronically and are evaluated based on appearance, content, and originality. Please, no posters already presented at a conference or in publication. Learn More 

W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award | Sonography students only
The W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award recognizes outstanding writing in the field of diagnostic medical sonography. Entries of either original research or a literature review may be submitted if they have not previously been published electronically or in print. The student’s program director must be listed as co-author.

Winners are encouraged to submit their work to the JDMS for publication consideration. Learn More
