As I start my term as SDMS president, I think back to when I was elected to be the incoming SDMS president two years ago. So much has changed. While it may seem that it has been stated ad nauseum, COVID-19 truly upended both healthcare and the way people go about their daily lives. As sonographers, we are now operating in a radically different environment both professionally and personally. On top of the changes brought about in healthcare by COVID-19, we are also witnessing the transformation of the face of medicine due to the rapid adoption of AI. I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that our “new normal” continues to evolve and we all are still in the process of examining what matters now.

While evolving times can cause uncertainty, they also hold opportunity. The SDMS is committed to seizing these opportunities as we continue to support and advocate for sonographers. In September, the SDMS Board voted to adopt a new strategic plan that will guide our efforts over the next four years. It is focused on the four objectives of learning, membership, advocacy, and non-dues revenue. I am especially excited about us working together to explore opportunities for collaboration, develop sonographers to lead the profession, and expand career options for sonographers.
