Purpose
The Sonographer and Student Poster Competition encourages sonographers and students to further research in diagnostic medical sonography and their own careers by creating poster presentations of findings in Original Research, Literature Review, or a Case Study. Entries are evaluated separately for the two categories (i.e., sonographers and students).

Eligibility
For entrants in the Sonographer category:
- The primary author, and any co-author(s) must be a current member of the SDMS in good standing at the time of submission; and
- A maximum of four sonographer authors may be listed for each entry.
For entrants in the Student category:
- The primary student author, and any co-author(s) must be a current member of the SDMS in the Student category at the time of entry submission;
- The Program Director must be a current member of the SDMS in good standing at the time of submission; and
- A maximum of four student authors may be listed for each entry.
For all entrants in the Sonographer and Student Poster Competitions:
- Only one entry submission is allowed per author;
- Entries must not have been previously exhibited or presented at other conferences or had their findings published within the field, regardless of the publication medium (e.g., journal, online, book, etc.); and
- Entries will only be accepted electronically (i.e., Adobe Acrobat PDF or Microsoft PowerPoint format).
- Pass a plagiarism screening with a similarity score of 15% or below; higher scores will require manual review to determine whether the overlap reflects citation or potential plagiarism.
Submission Deadline & Guidelines
- Applications and submissions are accepted annually between April 1 and May 31.
- Applications and submissions must be received online on or before May 31.

Recognition
The winners in each category (i.e., sonographer and student competitions) will receive:
- Monetary awards for First Place: $150 and Second Place: $100
- An engraved award;
- Recognition of author(s) and institution(s) with the poster when presented and displayed onsite at the SDMS Annual Conference;
- Two complimentary, transferable tickets for each author to the SDMS & SDMS Foundation Awards event held at the SDMS Annual Conference; and
- Recognition at the SDMS Annual Conference and in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS), SDMS press release, and SDMS social media release.
SDMS programs and services are developed and implemented in accordance with the SDMS Board Policy: Non-Discrimination [B.5.1].
