Dear SDMS Members,
The upcoming 2025 SDMS Annual Conference marks the end of my term as SDMS and SDMS Foundation President, and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with our distinguished board, amazing staff, and incredible volunteers.
As I reflect on our profession, I can’t help but think about the “waves for days” we encounter every day—not the longitudinal sound waves we know so well, but the waves that impact our personal and professional lives in healthcare. The ones that shape our lives in healthcare. The ones that can lift us or knock us down.
Some days, we face tidal waves—big changes that push us to adapt. Other days, it’s the rip currents—stress, burnout, difficult cases—trying to pull us under. Sometimes, it’s a tsunami—a moment so overwhelming, it tests every bit of our skill and resilience. Lastly, there are the calming waves. The thank-you from a patient. The breakthrough from a student. The encouragement from a colleague at just the right time. These waves remind us of our purpose and how each wave we make touches someone. I encourage you to be kind to yourself, lead with compassion, and remember every wave you make touches someone — make it one worth remembering.
Serving as your SDMS president has been one of the greatest honors of my life. You’ve inspired me, challenged me with your expertise, and you’ve reminded me—life is precious. Thank you for all you do for our patients, students, and our profession.
Lastly, I ask that you please join me in welcoming Aubrey Rybyinski, BS, RDMS, RVT, FSDMS, as the next SDMS and SDMS Foundation President. I have had the privilege of volunteering with Aubrey for many years. He is an exceptional leader and sonographer who truly cares about our profession. Aubrey will be sworn in at the 2025 SDMS Annual Conference, and I look forward to working with him.
