by SDMS Staff

For Immediate Release

Addison, Texas – The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) has announced a formal call for feedback from the sonography community as it prepares to update its Model Job Descriptions for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. This initiative marks a key step in ensuring that these foundational resources reflect the evolving roles, responsibilities, and expectations of today’s sonographers.

“As the sonography profession grows and adapts to a changing healthcare environment, our model job descriptions must evolve as well,” said Mary Rodriguez, MSML, CAE, SDMS Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. “Sonographers are on the front lines of patient care, and their voices are essential in defining the roles they perform every day."

The SDMS is seeking feedback on the following roles:

  • Staff Sonographer
  • Advanced Sonographer
  • Lead Sonographer
  • Sonography Manager

The updated descriptions will align with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, ensuring they remain relevant, accurate, and practical for use by employers, educators, and industry professionals.

“We know the best insights come from those who live this work every day,” said Rodriguez.
